Bio

Vince Verberckt

I was born on the 9th of march 1991 and I noticed very quickly that computers have always fascinated me. I started building my first website around the age of 10. It was a photo sharing website where I gathered pictures of me and my classmates at the time. At the age of 11, I started to investigate how I could upload pictures more easily. So I started learning PHP and soon I had made my first dynamic website. I was so happy about it, that I knew "This is my future".

College

After finishing highschool, I applied for Software engineering at Karel de Grote college in Antwerp. In the meantime I was already developing applications and websites for customers so I could have more experience when I would graduate. At the end of the second year, I made Snippetry with Geoffrey De Vylder and Niels Van Vliet. A website where users can easily create tutorials in the form of blocks.

Professional

When I graduated, I started working at Vasco Data Security. A security company specialised in two-factor authentication. I started as a QA-engineer, but after a year I changed internally to be a software engineer working on the MYDIGIPASS platform.

What can I do?

I'm currently working as a Ruby (rails) software engineer in combination with Jruby and Java. I have experience in Android development and worked with Python and PHP before. I don't have a real preference of favorite type of programming language, as I believe the language is just the tool to get to the endgoal. I enjoy working on the look of applications as well as solving complex problems in the backend of applications.

Spare time

In my spare time I like to work on my own pet projects and to contribute on StackOverflow and Github. I also enjoy traveling, playing the guitar and running.
